The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour is drawing near, and the moon is split (in two). 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 And deny, and follow their own vain desires; but every matter is determined at its time. 3 Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression), 4 Mature wisdom;- but (the preaching of) Warners profits them not. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 They will come out from the graves with eyes lowered, as if they were spread locusts. 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 Therefore he called upon his Lord: I am overcome, come Thou then to help. 10 So We opened the gates of heaven, with water pouring forth. 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 And certainly We left it as a sign, but is there anyone who 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 Ad cried lies. How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 Smashing down men as if they were uprooted trunks of date palms. 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
