The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 for, behold, unto thy Sustainer all must return. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 Yes indeed; do not listen to him and prostrate, and become close to Us. (Command of Prostration # 14) ۩ 19

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
