And when the envoys came to the family of Lot, 61 he said to them: 'I do not know you' 62 'No' they replied: 'We bring you (news) of that concerning which they were doubting. 63 "Yet we bring to you the truth, and we are truthful. 64 "Then travel in a part of the night with your family, and you go behind them in the rear, and let no one amongst you look back, but go on to where you are ordered." 65 And We revealed to him this decree, that the roots of these shall be cut off in the morning. 66 And the inhabitants of the city came rejoicing (at the news of the young men's arrival). 67 He said: Lo! they are my guests. Affront me not! 68 And fear Allah, and humiliate me not. 69 They said: forbade we not thee against the worlds? 70 [Lot] said: "[Take instead] these daughters of mine, if you must do [whatever you intend to do]!" 71 Verily by your life they were utterly confused in their (lustful) drunkenness. 72 But the (mighty) Blast overtook them before morning, 73 And We utterly confounded them, and We rained upon them stones of heated clay. 74 Verily, in all this there are messages indeed for those who can read the signs: 75 surely it is on a way yet remaining; 76 Behold! in this is a sign for those who believed. 77 The dwellers of the Thicket were harmdoers. 78 So We inflicted retribution on them, and they are both, indeed, on an open road (still) pursued. 79
