۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They replied, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They said: 'Is it the truth you have brought us, or are you one of those that play' 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 He broke them all into pieces, except for the biggest one of them, so that they might return to it [for enquiry]. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said: Then bring him (hither) before the people's eyes that they may testify. 61 'Abraham' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods' 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 They then turned to themselves, and said: verily ye it is who are the wrong-doers. 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said: "Burn him, and come to the support of your gods, if you are going to do anything." 68 We said, “O fire, become cool and peaceful upon Ibrahim.” 69 They had sought to do him harm, but We frustrated them. 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed upon him ls-haq and Ya qub as a grandson; and each one We made righteous. 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 and We admitted him into Our mercy; he was of the righteous. 75
