He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 You pay full attention, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And hath fear, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
