A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients?' 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 And upon it, you will drink the hot boiling water. 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Did you cast a good look at the water that you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
