The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 who guard their privates 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
