The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they differ? 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 Recompense fitted! 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
