The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 He verily will be content. 21
