And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 when he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 He said, "Do they hear you when you supplicate? 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 You and your fathers? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 Make my words come true in the future. 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 the Day on which neither wealth will be of any use, nor children, 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 Then the idols and those who strayed will be hurled into the Fire headlong, one upon another, 94 "And the whole hosts of Iblis together. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 no loyal friend. 101 If we could only return to the world and be among the believers." 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
