He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 So you are after him! 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
