The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are the verses of the Book and the glorious Quran. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them to feast and revel, beguiled by hope; they will come to know soon. 3 We have never destroyed a township without a definite decree having been issued; 4 No group may advance its appointed promise nor postpone it. 5 And yet they say: "You, to whom this Exposition has been sent are surely possessed of the Devil. 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian. 9 We have sent forth before you Messengers among the factions of the ancients. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 They will not believe in it, though they have before them the example of former peoples, 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 they would still have said: "Surely our eyes have been dazzled; rather, we have been enchanted." 15
