Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth: 2 That We made it a distinctly lucid Qur'an that you may understand. 3 And verily it is, in the Original Book before Us, indeed exalted. 4 Shall We utterly ignore you because ye are a wanton folk? 5 And how many a prophet We sent among the ancients. 6 But never did a prophet come at whom they did not scoff. 7 so We destroyed men stronger in valour than they, and the example of the ancients passed away. 8 And if you ask them, “Who has created the heavens and the earth?”, they will surely say, “They are created by the Most Honourable, the All Knowing.” 9 Who has made for you the earth like a bed, and has made for you roads therein, in order that you may find your way, 10 And Who sendeth down from the heaven water in measure; then We quicken a dead land therewith: even so ye shall be brought forth. 11 and who created the pairs, all of them, and appointed for you ships and cattle such as you ride, 12 in order that you might gain mastery over them, and that, whenever you have mastered them, you might remember your Sustainer's blessings and say: "Limitless in His glory is He who has made [all] this subservient to our use - since [but for Him,] we would not have been able to attain to it. 13 And lo! unto our Lord we surely are returning. 14 Yet they assign to some of His slaves a share with Him (by pretending that He has children, and considering them as equals or co-partners in worship with Him). Verily, man is indeed a manifest ingrate! 15
