The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By heaven and the night-star! 1 what do you know what the night-visitor is? 2 (It is) the Star of piercing brightness;- 3 There is no soul which is not guarded (by the two angels who record all of its deeds). 4 Let man consider what he was made of: 5 He was created from spurting fluid, 6 That is issued from between the backs and the ribs. 7 Surely, He is Able to bring him back, 8 A day when the secrets will be examined. 9 and he shall have no strength, no helper. 10 I swear by the raingiving heavens, 11 And by the earth which splitteth, 12 Indeed the Qur’an is a decisive Word. 13 And is not a matter of amusement. 14 Behold, they [who refuse to accept it] devise many a false argument [to disprove its truth]; 15 but I shall bring all their scheming to nought. 16 So bear with unbelievers with patience, and give them respite for a while. 17
True are the words of God the Almighty.
