The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and spreading shade 30 and gushing water, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
