He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
