Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Enter among My servants 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
