A Sign for them is the earth that is dead: We do give it life, and produce grain therefrom, of which ye do eat. 33 We have placed in it gardens of date palms and vines, and caused springs to gush [forth] from it, 34 So that they may eat of its fruit; yet it was not done by their hands. Then why do they not acknowledge thanks? 35 Purity is to Him Who created all pairs, from what the earth grows, and of themselves, and from the things they do not know. 36 They have a sign in the night: We withdraw from it the [light of] day -- and they are left in darkness. 37 And the sun runs his course for a period determined for him: that is the decree of (Him), the Exalted in Might, the All-Knowing. 38 And the moon, We have determined it in phases till it returns like an old palmbranch. 39 It is not for the sun to overtake the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day. They all float, each in an orbit. 40 And a sign for them is that We lodged them in a laden ship, while they were in their forefathers backs. 41 And We have created for them similar (vessels) on which they ride. 42 and [that,] if such be Our will, We may cause them to drown, with none to respond to their cry for help: and [then] they cannot be saved, 43 save as a mercy from Us, and enjoyment for a while. 44 When it is said to them: 'Have fear of that which is before you and behind you in order that you find mercy' 45 Yet there never comes to them any sign of their Lord's signs, but they turn away from it. 46 When they are told to spend for the cause of God out of what He has provided for them for their sustenance, the disbelievers say to the believers, "Should we feed those whom God has decided to feed? You are in plain error." 47 They also say: 'When will this promise be, if what you say is true' 48 They await just one scream, which will overcome them while they are involved in worldly disputes. 49 and so [sudden will be their end that] no testament will they be able to make, - nor to their own people will they return! 50
