The Moon (Al-Qamar)
55 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Comet (Al-Taareq) before S (Saad)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
THE HOUR HAS come and split is the moon. 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 they will come forth from their graves, with their eyes downcast, [swarming about] like locusts scattered [by the wind,] 7 hastening towards the Crier. Those who deny the truth will cry, "This is such a hard day!" 8 ۞ The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. 9 Then he called on his Lord: "I am one overcome: do Thou then help (me)!" 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined. 12 And We bore him on that which was made of planks and nails 13 Sailing, before Our eyes, a reward for him who was denied. 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 How terrible was My torment and the result of (their disregard) of My warning. 16 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 We sent a raging wind against them on a day of continuous calamity. 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
