The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? 1 Verily We created man out of a drop of intermingled sperm so that We might try him, and We therefore endowed him with hearing and sight. 2 We surely showed him the way that he may either be grateful or deny. 3 [Now,] behold, for those who deny the truth We have readied chains and shackles, and a blazing flame 4 Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur, 5 A fountain from which the servants of Allah shall drink; they make it to flow a (goodly) flowing forth. 6 They fulfill their vow and dread a Day the evil whereof shall be widespreading. 7 And out of His love, they give food to the needy, the orphan and the prisoner. 8 (saying): 'We feed you only desirous of the Face of Allah; we seek of you neither recompense nor thanks, 9 for we fear from our Lord a stern, frownful Day' 10 So God will protect them from the evil of that day, and grant them happiness and joy, 11 and recompensed them for their patience with a Garden, and silk; 12 Reclining in the (Garden) on raised thrones, they will see there neither the sun's (excessive heat) nor (the moon's) excessive cold. 13 The shades of the garden will be closely spread over them and it will be easy for them to reach the fruits. 14 And brought round amongst them will be vessels of silver and also goblets of glass. 15 crystal of silver that they have measured -- very exactly. 16 There are they watered with a cup whereof the mixture is of Zanjabil, 17 (The water of) a spring therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ There wait on them immortal youths, whom, when thou seest, thou wouldst take for scattered pearls. 19 When thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate. 20 On their bodies will be garments of the finest green silk and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give them a purest draught to drink. 21 [And it will be said], "Indeed, this is for you a reward, and your effort has been appreciated." 22
