Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf-Ha-Ya-A’in-Sad. (* Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah and to whomever He reveals know their precise meanings.) 1 A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His servant Zachariah. 2 Behold! he cried to his Lord in secret, 3 He said: O my Lord! verily the bones of me have waxen feeble, and the head is glistening with hoariness, and have not yet been in my prayer to thee, my Lord, unblest. 4 But I fear my relatives after me; and my wife is barren. So grant me a successor as a favour from You 5 who will be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him a person who will please you". 6 (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." 7 He said, "Lord, how can I have a son? My wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age". 8 (The angel) answered: "Thus will it be. Your Lord said: 'This is easy for Me; for when I brought you into being you were nothing.' 9 He said, “My Lord, give me a sign”; He said, “Your token is that you will not speak to people for three nights, although in proper health.” 10 Zachariah came out to his people from place of worship and inspired them to glorify the Lord both in the morning and evening. 11 (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child, 12 And compassion from Our presence, and purity; and he was devout, 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
