Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 who spread evil in the land with no reform." 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 159
