The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 and banana trees, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
