He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 So you are after him! 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
