The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
