He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and in awe [of God] 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
