Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 Who did transgress beyond bounds in the lands (in the disobedience of Allah). 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 your Lord keeps an eye on (all evil-doing people). 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
