'Aad denied the messengers 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
