The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining face to face. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and spreading shade 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruits numberless, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
