Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 and ten nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 And enter into My garden. 30
