In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
