He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
