The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
When the sun Kuwwirat (wound round and lost its light and is overthrown). 1 when the stars are thrown down, 2 And when the mountains are removed 3 And when full-term she-camels are neglected 4 And when the wild beasts are herded together, 5 And when the seas rise, 6 When souls are reunited (with the bodies) 7 And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked 8 For what sin she was killed? 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 when the sky is unveiled, 11 and when Hell is set ablaze, 12 and when paradise is brought into view: 13 Then every soul shall know that which it hath presented. 14 BUT NAY! I call to witness the revolving stars, 15 And by the planets that move swiftly and hide themselves, 16 And by the night when it departeth, 17 And by oath of the morning when it takes birth. 18 That this is indeed the word of an honoured Messenger, 19 Endued with Power, with rank before the Lord of the Throne, 20 One (to be) obeyed, and faithful in trust. 21 And your comrade is not mad. 22 And indeed he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] in the clear horizon (towards the east). 23 And he is of the unseen not a tenacious concealer. 24 Nor is this the word of an outcast devil. 25 So where are you going? 26 Verily this is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds: 27 For whoever wills among you to take a right course. 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Lord of the Universe, so wills it [to show you that way]. 29
