He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
