The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you; 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 When you lay hands upon anyone, you do so as tyrants. 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 And be careful of (your duty to) Him Who has given you abundance of what you know. 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
