Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 Do not follow those who are extravagant, 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 (Saleh) said: "Here is a she-camel. She has a right of drinking water, and you have a right of drinking it on appointed turns. 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
