He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 You neglect. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 mother, father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
