The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
The Hour is drawing near, and the moon is split (in two). 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 Messages deterring them from evil had come to them, 4 Effective wisdom; but warnings avail not. 5 Therefore, turn away from them. On the Day when the Caller summons them to a terrible thing, 6 their eyes will be humbled as they come out from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 Therefore he called upon his Lord: I am overcome, come Thou then to help. 10 We therefore opened the gates of heaven, with water flowing furiously. 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 Sailing, before Our eyes, a reward for him who was denied. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 22
