He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and covered by darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
