Nay, by the Moon 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 As a warning unto men, 36 To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 who in their gardens will be enquiring 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They will answer: "We were not among those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 "And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allah hated) with vain talkers. 45 “And used to deny the Day of Justice.” 46 Until there came to us the certainty." 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 As though they were frightened asses 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
