He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his sons: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
