Nay, and by the moon, 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 A warning to mankind, 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 In Gardens, they seek answers, 40 Of evil-doers: 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 we indulged in vain arguments along with those who indulged in them; 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 Till the Inevitable came unto us. 47 The intercession of the intercessors will be of no benefit to them. 48 Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition? 49 as if they were startled asses 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
