Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 and the ten nights! 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And His bonds will be such as none (other) can bind. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Join My worshipers and 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
