Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He said: Do they hear you when you call? 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 you, and your elderly fathers? 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 "And when I am ill, it is He Who cures me; 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 Forgive me and my father: He was surely among those who went astray. 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 except him who comes before Allah with a pure heart; 89 And Paradise will be brought close for the pious. 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 It shall be said to them, 'Where is that you were serving 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 And all the armies of Iblis. (Satan) 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 nor a loving friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
