Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea behind you as calm as ever. Surely they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.” 24 How many were the gardens and springs they left behind, 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29
