The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
