And recite to them the story of Ibrahim. 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing so." 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 O Lord, give me wisdom and admit me among the righteous, 83 Make my words come true in the future. 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 And it will be said to them: "Where are those (the false gods whom you used to set up as rivals with Allah) that you used to worship 92 Besides Allah? Can they help you or yet help themselves? 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 When We held you (false gods) as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 We have no intercessors now, 100 Nor any loving friend. 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
