(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 Verily your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 140
