Nay, by the moon, 32 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 33 and the dawn when it is white, 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 As a warning unto men, 36 a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 In Gardens; they shall be asking, 40 From the guilty. 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 They will reply, "We did not pray, 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 Until there came to us the certainty." 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 Yes indeed, this is an advice. 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
