He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him you give attention. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 So man must look at his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
